[mkiv] Latest Oil Recomendations

Anand, has the car not been started for 18 months?

At minimum, I would pull the EFI relay(s) and crank the engine over several
times to get oil circulating before you fire it. However, this still doesn't
help the initial dry bearing situation.

If you're feeling really industrious, this is what I'd do to completely
avoid a dry start:

1) Get the car jacked up where you can get under it to access the oil filter
& drain plug

2) Drain the oil & remove the filter. There's now a 3/4 x 16 nipple exposed
where the oil filter screws on, which just happens to be the same size as -8
AN

3) Get a little ShurFlo diaphragm pump (the type everyone uses for M/W
injection systems) and fabricate a line for it that will mate to that oil
filter nipple. A -8 o-ring fitting should work and not leak too much. Put
the suction side in some clean oil and let the pump discharge to your drain
pan for a bit to prime itself and clean out the lines and all debris get
flushed out.

4) Hook the -8 AN end up to the nipple on the car, fire the pump up and
circulate new oil through the system for 30 seconds to a minute, to ensure
everything is well lubed. Be sure to leave the drain plug out of the oil
sump to avoid flooding the engine with oil! You could also hook up a
pressure gauge on the output of the pump to confirm/monitor your oil
pressure, and if you're really anal, you could put an inline filter on the
discharge of the pump to make absolutely, positively sure the pump is
sending clean oil to the engine.

5) Disconnect the pump, replace the oil filter (or change it for a new one
if you have any doubts), replace the drain plug in the sump, refill the
engine with clean oil, and start 'er up.

Note: I haven't tried this actual procedure, but I fabricated an onboard
prelube system 8 years ago for my Supra which does exactly the same
function, since my car sits for weeks at a time between starts. So I just
push a button and give it a 30 second prelube before each start..

Good luck!

Subject: [mkiv] Latest Oil Recomendations

Hi list. I haven't posted in a long time since i've been in and out
of the country for the last 6 years. My supra 97TT BPU+ has been in
storage mode for about 18 months now. I replaced all the fluids before
storing it and treated the gas with Stabil fuel stabilizer. I also had
the battery on a trickle charger.

Do you guys recommend I changed the oil before I start the car again?
Like I said the oil is about 18 months old but it's unused. Is there
anything else I should keep in mind before starting her up?

Sorry for the super newb question. I kind of feel like a newbie after
6 years of inactivity in the mkiv world.

Thanks a lot guys.
