Oolan, I remember something a few years ago about our oil pressure sensors
being dodgy and/or leaking. Someone (Mani?) did a mod using a Lexus or
Landcruiser oil pressure sensor or adaptor (memory is fading fast) and it
sorted the problem, plus provided a takeoff point for an electronic oil
pressure gauge. I'm sure if you search the maillist archives there'll be
something about it, circa 2001 or so. There might also be a mod on mkiv.com
about it.
Wishing you a Happy New Year and an oil pan without any metal bits!
John

Sorry, '97 TT BPU++ with about 80k miles.
I managed to limp it home without the oil light coming on again. My order
from Summit that will allow me to plumb in an oil pressure gauge arrives
today, but I probably won't be able to play with this for a week or more.
I'll be satisfied that it's the switch or the wiring if I can make the light
come on with the gauge telling me that all is well. I should probably mount
a magnet inside the canister oil filter and get a magnetic drain plug, so I
can find if there are bits and pieces that resulted from this incident.
Thanks,
Oolan
